Used with thick or double socks for a customizable fit and moisture management. The heel groove and reinforced sole edges make them compatible with NATO-standard ski and snowshoe bindings.

In the 1960s, the Norwegian army decided to update its combat footwear. At that time, soldiers wore ankle-high leather shoes paired with separate fabric gaiters. The new boot design was based on the existing model but featured a taller shaft for better support and protection.‎

The Norwegians conducted extensive testing on every aspect of the boot, including fit, sole structure and tread pattern, lacing system, and leather properties. After about a decade of refinement, the Model 1977 combat boot was introduced. Even today, this boot remains standard issue for Norwegian soldiers, with no current plans for a replacement.
